Math Competition Resources

"A national program that provides students in grades 6-8 the opportunity to compete in live, in-person contests against and alongside their peers."
"The Competition Series has 4 levels of competition—school, chapter, state and national. Each level of competition is comprised of 4 rounds—Sprint, Target, Team and Countdown Round. Altogether the rounds are designed to take about 3 hours to complete.
Sprint Round: focuses on speed and accuracy. Students have 40 minutes to complete 30 math problems without a calculator.
Target Round: focuses on problem-solving and mathematical reasoning. Students receive 4 pairs of problems and have 6 minutes to complete each pair, assuming the use of a calculator.
Team Round: focuses on problem-solving and collaboration. Students have 20 minutes to complete 10 math problems, assuming the use of a calculator. Only the 4 students on a school's team can take this round officially.
Countdown Round: focuses on speed and accuracy. Students have a maximum of 45 seconds per problem without a calculator. This round is optional at the school, chapter and state level."

"The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development of problem-solving skills. The AMC 8 provides an opportunity for middle school students to develop positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. Students apply classroom skills to unique problem-solving challenges in a low-stress and friendly environment."

"Girls' Adventures in Math is a team-based math competition for girls in grades 3-8. Our competition presents some of the most challenging and innovative math problems to students in this age group, contextualized in a comic book containing the stories of pioneering women from history. The competition occurs in two rounds: a sixty-minute Round 1, and a twenty-minute Round 2."

"The core of the mathleague.org middle school program consists of a series of contests held throughout the school year, culminating in the (INTER)2SECT Championship. Problems and contest formats in our middle school contests are designed to also prepare middle school students for the MATHCOUNTS competition series.
Top-scoring students in qualifying rounds are invited to compete at the national (INTER)2SECT Championship in April."
